El Cid, in point of fact Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar  was a Castilian nobleman and military leader in medieval Hispanic kingdoms. He was called El Cid (the Lord) by the Moors and El Campeador (the Champion) by Christians. He is the otherwise real but made legendary national hero of Castile. Lived in 1043-1099.
