Knights Templar

The Knights Templar, or The Poor Fellow-Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, were a catholic military order established in 1139 and active until 1312. Apart from their military mission, the Knights Templar had also provided funds for many extraordinary buildings in Europe and the Holy Land. Many of them have acquired a name “temple” as a way of association with the order. The distinctive feature of the architectural elements is the use of the symbol of the two knights on a single horse. This representation exhibited the order's poverty.
